prayer urgency heightens

Well, here it is....only day 11 of my unemployment and I'm already starting to feel the heat of looking for some jobs...a job...any job now, really. I finally had my first interview in nearly 3 1/2 months, and am feeling good about my prospects for a breakfast attendant position in town here...nice M-F job mornings, too....But honestly, I have no idea what my chances truly are, and I am continuing to figure out how to put my best foot forward...not only in my job-seeking life...but in my personal and church lives as well....I have been on fire serving the past week and wonder how the lord might be blessing that...and have also been considering taking some personal steps for fulfillment and relationships. This Friday is the 4th of July....and it marks the 232nd anniversary of our country declaring seperation from the British. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Independence_Day_%28United_States%29

A room of delegates representing the 13 original colonies met that day...Among them, Benjamin Franklin, who stated "Yes, we must, indeed, all hang together, or most assuredly we shall all hang separately"...when debate about wether or not to take that giant step. Did you know John Hancock is the only one to actually sign the declaration that day? Most of the rest of the delegates didn't put their "John Hancock" on the document until August 2! I say "most" because did you also know three delegates never signed. Robert R. Livingston, a member of the original drafting committee, was present for the vote on July 2 but returned to New York before the August 2 signing. John Dickinson, a member of the Continental Congress from Pennsylvania, refused to sign. He was against separation from Great Britain and labored to change the language of the Declaration of Independence to leave open the possibility of a reconciliation. Thomas Lynch voted for the Declaration but could not sign it because of illness.

In a way...this has kind of been like those that have either stayed and "declared" themselves Jesus followers in our church...putting their ink to paper through baptism...or those who have decided it is not for them...or might be too ill...The Revolutionary war lasted 8 years...It is my hope as many as possible will continue to battle it out as long as it takes for them to fight off the enemy and will be coming to church for the long haul...no matter what the cost to personal comfort, relationships and lifestyles...Because there is hope in our lord and savior, Jesus Christ. Remember THAT this independence day!
